| My sculptures are made from redundant agricultural implements and scrap metal, which I have hoarded over a number of years. Some of which are so interesting in them selves that they are the inspiration for the piece. As an example, discarded checker plate suggests the skin of a crocodile to me.
The sculpture evolves in it's creation, rather than being a completely predetermined design, mainly due to the nature of the materials that I am using.
Animals are a recurring theme in my sculptures, the diversity of form, texture and movement being of an endless fascination to me.
Working from a farm building in West Oxfordshire makes it possible for me to constantly refer to many different beasts' anatomy and movement. When I am working on more exotic creatures my son has yet another visit to the wildlife park.
Although there is an abstract element to my sculptures, I find that referring to the animals themselves gives the pieces a structure based on reality.
